Industrial robots gain more and more popularity and are commonly used in a wide range of industries: automotive industry, machine engineering, metalworking, food industry and many others. According to data provided by International Federation of Robotics (IFR) during the period from 2014 till 2019 the world robotics market increased by 85%.

The term “industrial robot” is based on the definition of the International Organization for Standardization ISO 8373:2012 “Robots and robotic devices — Vocabulary”. According to it “industrial robot is an automatically controlled, reprogrammable multipurpose manipulator programmable in three or more axes, which can be either fixed in place or mobile for use in industrial automation applications”.

Robot manipulator is a type of industrial robots. Such robots perform functions of a human arm. Manipulators have rotary and linear axis. Number of such axis (degrees of freedom) depends on number of junctions. Manipulator’s junctions allow rotational and translational motions, thanks to which robots perform painting, assembling and welding works, metal cutting.

Here are the main advantages of using industrial robots in manufacturing operations:

- Greater safety when performing works.

- Increased speed for manufacturing processes.

- Better production quality.

- Reduced direct labor costs.
